Happy Place

I don't know what I caught, but it must be a super bug because I've been knocked out for the past week! I've been so sick I can't do anything! I can't even talk on the phone!! Just when I thought I was getting over it, it turned into a sinus infection! Oh the pain, the suffering, the nasal spray! The only thing getting me through this tough time is knowing that Danny and I renewed our Disneyland passes!!!! I miss Disneyland! I miss California Adventure, I know most of you will think I am lame, but I LOOOVE California Adventure, maybe even more than Disneyland. I just love the boardwalk feel! I could seriously sit on a bench and look out onto the park eating an ice cream all day. I just want to get better so I can go back to my happy place, the HAPPIEST place on Earth!

I just love California Adventure! I can't wait for the Cars ride to open up!

California Adventure makes me feel so cool that I just need to kick my knee up.

Bridesmaid's Dress II

I had made a rough draft of a dress I thought I wanted to make for my friend's wedding and I was going to make it with my real fabric this week, but then Simplicity patterns went on sale at JoAnn's and I bought the CUTEST little Project Runway pattern! I knew this was going to be the pattern I used to make my bridesmaids dress! I made a couple of changes to the pattern, I added pockets, used an invisible zipper instead of a zipper with a tab, and then added one more super secret alteration that made my dress the most perfect dress! I hope Lauren likes it! I already found the cutest shoes to go with it, hopefully the mall has them cause if they don't then I'll have to order them and I hate paying for shipping!! I can't wait for Lauren's wedding! We're doing a girls trip up there with some other fellow bridesmaids, I love spending time with the girls it will be nothing but Ace of Base and Puffy Cheetos all the way up!

Hurray for friends getting married this summer!! And being a bridesmaid!

PS: Have you seen the movie Bridesmaids? It was funny! 

I wouldn't call it the female Hangover, because the Hangover was HIlarious, but it was really funny. 

I loved Melissa McCarthy's character!, she cracked me up! 

Danny's Babies

Danny got two tortoises a few months ago, they're the cutest little things! Right now they're the size of my hand, but in a few years they can be up to 250 pounds! We named one of them Darwin, and the other one is named after one of my favorite philosophers, Nietzsche. They love laying out in the sun and eating lettuce. I love watching them stroll around the cage, and they're surprisingly good climbers! I would look into the tank every once in a while and they would be on top of their log caves! How did they get up there!? They're crazy! 

I can't wait for these guys to get bigger.  Good old Chuck and Fred.

Day in LA

When Danny's Dad came into town a couple weeks ago we thought it would be fun to go to the La Brea Tar Pits! Then we got there, and it wasn't that much fun ha ha. Very fun in theory though! After walking around the museum they had there we took a stroll to some fun places around the Tar Pits and then took off to the Griffiths Observatory. Then we ended our fun day in LA sitting in traffic! Danny got a the new Rebel T3i so we got a lot of good pictures! I can't believe what difference a good camera makes! Best purchase ever! Ha ha ha

Seersucker!

 A couple of weeks ago Danny and I were over at his sister's house and she showed me a picture of the cutest little shirt dress! It was the Wrap Weekend Dress by Milly. It had a lot of detail and the most interesting effect of a shirt dress mixed with a wrap dress. I don't know how it would feel on, but in the picture it looked darling. I knew that I couldn't make the dress exactly how Milly did, but I could at least get some similar fabric, and add a big bow to give it more of a wrapped look. I used a really cute seersucker gingham fabric, there was a girl in my clothing class that used a black seersucker fabric for a wrap dress she made, and I've wanted to try and work with that fabric ever since I saw how nicely the fabric worked as a dress! Here was my chance! I think it's so cute, I can't wait to pair it with yellow sandals this summer!

Saks Fifth Avenue

Never NeverLand

I am really loving the Peter-Pan collars right now! This is my first attempt at trying a shirt dress with a Peter-Pan collar, I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I made it in kind of a rush so I didn't go and buy an invisible zipper, but I just bought some beautiful white lacy fabric and I plan on remaking this in that fabric in the next few weeks. Eeeee! I am so excited! I just think these collars looks so chic, I feel like Audrey Hepburn!

Madewell

The copy-cat strikes again! I saw this skirt at Madewell and I had to have it! It was SO cute, but I didn't want to spend $98 on something that I thought I could make! So, I ran to Jo-Ann's and M&L, found some chambray and made my very own chambray skirt!! I love how it turned out. I knew this was going to be my key summer skirt so after I finished making one out of chambray, I went ahead and made another one out of oxford! The chambray one is perfect for everyday running around, while the oxford one is a little fuller and heavier which makes it perfect for fun outings and parties! I am so happy with my skirts! I think everyone should go get/make one ... or two!

Bridesmaids

My friend Lauren asked me to be a bridesmaid at her wedding in June! She said she wanted an eclectic mix of dresses.  Besides a couple of colors she told us to stay away from, we can wear whatever we want! I decided that I was going to make my dress, so I took some fabric that I had lying around and made a rough draft of the dress I was thinking of wearing! My rough draft came out pretty good! It needs to be a bit longer (I didn't have that much fabric) and I need to get/make a blazer or cover up to go with it, but I think it's pretty cute! I wanted to make the final version in yellow, but then I found out that two other bridesmaids plan on wearing yellow, and in order to give Lauren that fun, eclectic feel we can't all be in the same color! So, now I am thinking of making it in a light blue floral print that I bought at Jo-Ann's today. There's BIG Memorial Day sale going on right now there by the way. I got some AMAZING fabrics and patterns. So go stock up!!

Midi and Maxi

I LOVE the maxi skirt trend that is happening right now! I wax my legs so now I have something to wear during those awful days where I am in between waxes! TMI? Possibly, but whatever it's my blog and I'll share what I want to share! I am planning on making a couple more maxi skirts before summer truly begins! I also love the midi skirts, I have to wear these with heels since I am a shorty! But it's worth it, because I think the length of these skirts are so great. I can't wait to make more midi skirts too! This will be the summer of glamorous skirts. I just know it!

Free Skin Cancer Screenings

Summer is just about to hit and I had this mole on my shoulder that I had never noticed before, it was driving me crazy. I googled to see if anyone was offering free skin cancer screenings so that I could get it checked out and I found out that the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery are doing FREE skin cancer screenings!

Go to aad.org or asds.net to find a volunteer near you doing screenings!

There was a dermatologist in Fullerton doing free screenings so, I was lucky that I just had to go down the street. I called last week and made an appointment for last Wednesday. They took pictures of my larger/darker moles so that they could put them on file. That way if I think I notice them changing we have something to compare them with. I wanted to get the mole on my shoulder removed so, then I made another appointment for today to get my mole removed. Now I just have to wait one to two weeks for the results. Hopefully it comes back fine! I've had other moles removed and they've come back benign, I hope it will be the same with this one!

Go get your moles checked!  A lot of the dermatologist are only doing these screenings through May so, go get checked out before summer starts! Moles can darken during the summer from sun exposure so it's always a good idea to get your skin checked before summer begins, and then again around October or November or whenever your skin lightens again. That way you can see if the moles that got dark during the summer are staying dark.

Self exams are always a good idea, but if a professional is willing to give you their expert advice for free why not take it!?
