Summer Skirts!

I went skirt crazy the past couple weeks! I made skirts with zippers, skirts with elastic, pockets and thin waist bands, no pockets and channel stitching. It will start getting hot before I know it and I will be rocking these skirts soon enough!

Meow, Here Comes a Copy-Cat!

I went the Anthropologie a while back and saw this really cute yellow skirt, I thought it would be perfect for summer! I was THIS close to getting it when I realized that paying $118 for a skirt that had an elastic waist band was just silly. I couldn't wait for it to go on sale so, I decided that I was going to attempt to duplicate said skirt! It's not exactly the same, but it's close enough and I love it!

Happy Birthday Bonnie!

It was Danny's nieces' birthday and I didn't know what I was going to get her! I never know what to get little kids, I don't have kids and I don't remember what I liked when I was a kid so, I am always a little nervous when it comes to shopping for kids! After a good day of thinking and debating what to get Miss Bonnie on her birthday I decided I was just going to make her something! Every time I see her she is either drawing or coloring, she is a little artist! I figured it would be nice to have a little clutch full of art supplies that she could take with her wherever she went, then I thought it would be cute to put the clutch in a little tote so that she could not only take her little art clutch everywhere, but she could also take her coloring books or some Mad Libs for mama! Originally I made just a crayon caddy that carried 24 crayons, then I realized that that wasn't very fun, so I made another one that had room for 12 crayons, 3 pencils, and a paper pad. Then she could really take it anywhere and have everything she needed!

Here is the original crayon caddy that held the 24 crayons, after I made her the other art caddy I just put the extra crayons in this caddy.

My First Dress

My goal this semester was to make a shirt dress, so I went and bought a pattern. I thought I'd try a non-collar version of the dress I am going to make first so that when it comes time to make my shirt dress I will be well versed in the body of the dress and can focus all my attention to the collar (which I am most nervous about). Serger, How I Love Thee.

I've been wanting to buy a serger, but I didn't know how to use them! They intimidate me! SO many threads, so many loopers and tensions, and the knife! Don't get me started on the knife! So, I thought I'd take a serger class, and boy am I glad I did. I love love love the serger!!! I love sewing on knits, it's so easy on the serger. I bought a couple tops at Anthropologie and I wanted to duplicate them, so I bought some knit fabric and duplicated the pattern from my Anthro shirts onto my fabric and made the CUTEST tops! I've made like five of each already. You can't ever have too many knits.

New Skirt Patterns!

I know I haven't updated in a while, but I have been busy with more sewing classes and making new skirts WITH zippers! I used to just make skirts with elastic waistbands, but now I have upgraded to zippers! The sad thing is, I went into Anthropologie the other day and almost all their new skirts had ELASTIC WAISTBANDS! Right when I learn how to put in zippers they're not cool anymore ha ha ha. Anywho, I LOVE zippers, I hated the bulk that elastic gave me, and I was so limited to the fabrics I could use. so here are pictures of the skirts I've been making lately.

Current Obsession

Currently I am OBSESSED with matryoshkas or babushka dolls (hence the new background). I want all fabrics with them, salt and pepper shakers, stickers, plates, etc... I just bought a Cricut cartridge solely for the 4 little matryoshkas it had! I have put them on (almost) every card I've made so far! They're too cute. Poor Danny, not only does he have to put up with my owl obsession, but now he has to put up with this obsession too. If only they made stuff with owls AND babushka dolls!!
Anywho currently my life has been a bit boring, my sewing machine broke about a month ago so I haven't been able to sew. I've been going crazy! Luckily I am dating the most AMAZING man on earth because my sweetheart of a man went out and got me a new sewing machine the other day! I am SO excited!! I made a skirt today and can't wait to make more things tomorrow. So, you will no longer have to put up with posts about my life. I can start posting about crafts again! Yay!!
I am going to go craft now! I'm going to go make my own matryoshkas/owl stuff. That's how I am going to get rich! Don't steal my idea.

Happy Birthday Danny!

A few weeks ago my dad called me and told me that he found the most AMAZING restaurant for Danny. He said he was driving to one of his projects and he passed all these old airplanes and he just knew Danny would love it. He was right! I took Danny there on his birthday and he was in awe. Not only were there old airplanes/airplane models all around the restaurant but it is literally next door to LAX so as you eat you get to watch all the planes land and take off! We were the only non-pilots there, but it was okay because Danny knows so much about airplanes that we didn't stick out too much. We can't wait to go back when it is a little bit warmer and sit outside in order to get a better view of the planes coming in!

Yay! Happy Birthday babe! I hope you had a good one! I love you. Thanks for being the best and most handsome boyfriend in the world!
PS: Please notice the amazing birthday sign I made for Danny with my new Cricut (that he got me for Christmas). Seriously the best boyfriend EVER!

She's Only Happy in the Sun

Ever since I can remember my family has been getting up at 7am on January 2nd to make reservations for Leo Carrillo. We've been going since I was 6 or 7. When we were little we would go in June, July, and August. Now that my cousins and I are all grown we go in July and August, and Danny and I have started a new tradition of going in September! This year I had to make the reservations so I woke up at 7, logged into my account and got ready to make my reservation. This year Leo Carrillo threw me for a loop, they turned into "site specific" reservations instead of "first come first serve"! Lucky for me I know what spots are good, but unlucky for me those are the spots that everyone wants the most!! Well I sat there waiting for it to hit 8:00:01 so that I could reserve our site! And I GOT IT!!! So for July we are good to go, now I have to make reservations for August in February. I am already stressing about it because we need two sites this time! So I am going to have to recruit Danny to make a reservation, because since it's site specific now, by the time I finished making one reservation ALL and I mean ALLLLLLLLL the other spots I wanted were booked. Can you believe that? By 8:04 EVERY SINGLE Friday, Saturday, Sunday was booked!!!! So, now we need to do the reservations as groups cause one person can't do it all anymore. I am not too worried about the reservations for August and September, but I am VERY VERY worried about the reservations for July, August and September 2012 cause people that aren't too familiar with Leo Carrillo are going to go this summer and write down all the good spots so, I will be competing with even more people for my spots! Oh Leo Carrillo! How could you do this to me!? There are about 7 good spots in Leo Carrillo and if ONE other person wants the spot I want on the same weekend that I want it I am screwed! Well at least I got the best spot EVER for July. We will see what happens for August!

For those of you that didn't know, my sewing machine broke a couple weeks ago so, I haven't been able to craft! I am getting a new one in the next few days so I will be back to crafting ASAP!
